BFRC System Houses

System Houses

Registering with us as a System House means any manufacturers you supply to are able to join BFRC and have access to energy ratings at a discounted rate.

To register you would need to have your products simulated by a BFRC approved simulator to determine their ratings. Many of our registered System Houses have their own simulators so they can constantly keep their licence scope updated.

BFRC rainbow ratings

Manufacturers

It’s easy for manufacturers to make claims about a product’s energy performance. BFRC ‘rainbow’ ratings go beyond claims to provide more comprehensive proof than a single U-value (heat loss). Our energy ratings comprise of three factors: heat loss, solar gain and air leakage – all assessed in strict accordance with relevant EN and ISO standards.

BFRC’s easy-to-read labels are recognised by millions of people, who understand how rainbow-coloured ratings work. Using our labels shows you comply with our stringent standards of measurement and inspection – a powerful marketing tool that sets your products apart and reassures buyers.

Step 1. Get your products BFRC Rated

  • You can reach out to a BFRC Approved simulator to have your products energy rated and use this evidence to submit an application to us for energy rating licences to be set up for your products.
  • Each energy rating licence is backed up by a simulation report or calculator output issued by an approved BFRC Simulator or approved system house calculator.

Step 2. Get your installers on board

  • Once you’re set up, your customers can register with BFRC as a BFRC Approved Installer for their own energy rating labels.
  • All BFRC registered manufacturers are audited annually to ensure they comply with BFRC scheme rules. The main purpose of the auditing process is to establish that the windows and doors you manufacture are the same as those registered with BFRC. Please contact us for further information.

BFRC registered suppliers

Installers

If you purchase from BFRC registered suppliers, you can join our scheme and ‘piggyback’ off their energy rated products.

Step 1. Become a BFRC Approved Installer

  • Reach out to your BFRC registered supplier to ensure you are installing a product covered by their energy rating licences and then get in touch with us to specify which licences you need.

Step 2. Sell performance with BFRC labels

  • Homeowners are increasingly aware that energy performance matters. BFRC rainbow ratings give your customers the complete picture about a product’s energy performance (instead of just its U-value) comprising heat loss, solar gain and air leakage too.
  • All products produced in accordance with a BFRC energy rating licence is required to be permanently marked. For more information on our permanent mark policy please get in touch.
  • Energy efficiency is invisible. If homeowners can’t see the performance of your windows or doors, how will they prefer yours? When homeowners choose windows and doors for their home, they can see how they’ll look but not how they’ll perform. That’s why it’s crucial to offer BFRC rated products and advise homeowners about energy efficiency. So that when your customers’ homes are warm and cosy, they’ll reward you with referrals.

BFRC rated windows and doors

Homeowners

Installing BFRC rated windows and doors can save you money on your energy bills and reduce carbon emissions from your home by making it more energy efficient. BFRC assesses the energy performance of windows and doors and gives them a rating between A++ and E. Genuine BFRC rated products are labelled with a small official sticker on the inside of the frame and sometimes a large rainbow label on the surface of the window or door.

The BFRC energy rating is a calculation that takes into account three factors : heat loss, solar gain and air leakage – all assessed in strict accordance with relevant EN and ISO standards.

  • Solar gain refers to the heat travelling in through a window (positive).
  • Thermal transmittance refers to the heat loss out of a window. (negative)
  • Air leakage refers to the level of uncontrolled air flow out of a window which causes heat loss. (negative)
